Ephesians 1 – 3: An Overview (1 of 2)

OverviewPicScripture: Ephesians chapters 1 to 3

Praise be to God for his great blessings to us” is the theme in Ephesians chapters 1 to 3. We have looked at some details of this passage in the past. As a reminder that the book of Ephesians is a letter and that every part is not detached from its surrounding passage, we are going to look at the overall structure now.

While an overview is usually given in the beginning of a study, I chose to delay doing it until now because when I started the blog, I wanted the blog to sound like a blog instead of a formal study (as that would probably have driven some readers away, unfortunately). But now that we have gone through 3 chapters of the book, I think it is about time to look at the overall structure.

Since overall structure can be easier seen visually, and since it is not easy to do visual presentation with just words/writing, I have prepared a video. It can viewed here:

I used a voice synthesizer to prepare the video. It makes the production much faster. I apologize if you hate the voice. I don’t love it either, but the saving in time is substantial, especially for a second-language speaker. For presenting a structure or outline, I think it has some value. Hopefully in the near future, technology in voice synthesis will advance to the point of producing much more natural sounding voice.

May you experience God’s blessing as you read and hear about his blessings for us in Christ!

  1. I like the video presentation. Yes, it is clear and plain and simple for the overview of Chapter 1-3.

Though without knowing what you are going to put in the 2nd part of this overview, I think if you could explain a little bit more about why identifying the structure or the outline of Apostle Paul’s letter (or a book in Bible) is vital and helpful in order to understand the book as a whole, that would be beneficial for the general audience here.

    • Anna, thanks for your input. I will probably just mention it briefly. Readers have wide background, so sometimes it is hard to decide what to or not to explain. Hopefully one time I will write about bible study (hermeneutics) and will talk a little more.

      God bless!
